LA Department of Education Family Support Toolbox

Louisiana Believes starts with the premise that all children can achieve high expectations and that parents know best how to prepare their children to succeed in college and careers. Our goal is to empower you with information so you can decide the best education for your child.

Parent Guide to Leap 2025 Tests

As schools and students begin their final preparations for the spring Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) tests, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) created this fact sheet to provide parents with general information about the tests, and what you and your child can expect when he or she takes the tests in April and May.

Graduation Requirements (Louisiana Department of Education)

During the first two years of high schools, students should focus on building on the knowledge and skills they gained in previous grades. Every 9th and 10th grade student (beginning 2014-2015 and thereafter) will take core academic classes to work towards a diploma. Following the student’s 10th grade year, a student may choose to work toward a Jump Start TOPS Tech Pathway or pursue the TOPS University Pathway. Students may choose both pathways. Decisions are made with counseling and guidance, based on the student’s interests, capabilities, and ambitions.

State Assessments (Louisiana Department of Education)

K-12 Assessments: If we believe that all students can achieve, then we must measure their progress to ensure they remain on track for the next grade level and, ultimately, for college and professional careers.

Student & School System Results
: Louisiana developed an accountability system which incentivizes individual student and school-wide achievement and growth, and reports annually on their performance.

Tools to Support Assessments: As Louisiana’s tests move online, teachers, principals, and school system leaders need support in order to ensure that all students have the academic and technological skills needed to be successful.
