Our Mission
The City of Baker School System shall provide a quality education for all students by creating a learning community that will prepare them for their roles as life-long learners and high-achieving citizens in a global society. We seek to model and encourage high standards for success, preparing our students for excellence in all future endeavors.
The Helix Partnership: "Come Home to BAKER"
Through a transformative collaborative management partnership with Helix Community Schools, our institution has been revitalized into Baker High School, a Helix Fintech & Performing Arts Academy. This initiative brings an innovative, tuition-free academic framework to our campus, bridging public school traditions with cutting-edge career pathways.
Our students benefit from advanced, hands-on learning tracks designed for the modern world:
- Financial Technology (Fintech): Early exposure to modern business, digital economics, and financial technology concepts.
- Performing Arts & Media Production: Expanded programs in creative arts, music, digital media, and broadcasting. This includes student-led content creation through The Buffalo Vault media program.
Our History & Legacy
Founded in the early 1900s to serve northern East Baton Rouge Parish, Baker High School holds a historic place in Louisiana's educational landscape. Our unique, fan-shaped school auditorium was built in 1959 and was officially added to the National Register of Historic Placesin 2014 due to its mid-century architectural significance.
For decades, the school operated under the East Baton Rouge Parish school board. Following years of community effort to secure local control, a historic independent school district was finalized. On July 1, 2003, the City of Baker School System officially launched as Louisiana's 67th school district, with Baker High School standing proud as its flagship high school.
