Helix Community Schools hosting groundbreaking ceremony for Helix AI and Medical Academy, Aug. 27
BATON ROUGE, La. (Aug. 19, 2024) – Helix Community Schools is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for its Helix Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Medical Academy on Aug. 27, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony will take place next to Our Savior’s Church, 202 Our Savior’s Church Blvd., in Opelousas.
The public is invited to attend to celebrate this momentous occasion. Community leaders and elected officials will also be in attendance.
“We are beyond thrilled to celebrate the start of construction of our new school,” said Preston Castille, president and CEO of Helix Community Schools. “We know it will be a game changer for families in St. Landry Parish.”
“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone as we begin this new chapter to help prepare our students for the future,” said Jennifer Gordon, executive director for growth and opportunities and founding principal for Helix AI and Medical.
Helix AI and Medical is a public charter school that will offer classes for students in kindergarten through fifth grades in 2025, expanding to grades sixth through eighth in 2026. The 42,000 square feet, state-of-the-art facility will be located on 17 acres of land next to Our Savior’s Church off of I-49.
The school is designed to meet the future demands of technology and the medical industries. The curriculum will be rooted in artificial intelligence, medicine, and STEM with project-based learning and leadership development.
“This is a significant milestone in St. Landry Parish’s history as the new school represents forward thinking and innovation,” said St. Landry Parish Schools Superintendent Milton Batiste III. “We believe it will not only equip our students for the jobs of the future, but it will also have a major impact on our community as a whole.”
